Thread basting hexagons is a cost effective alternative to glue basting and, for me, an incredibly relaxing past time.
Here's how to do it:
1 Punch a hole in the centre of your template (it will make it easier to remove later on)
2 Pin the template to the wrong side of the fabric square
3 Trim the fabric leaving approx. 3/8” seam allowance
4 Fold fabric tightly over the edge of the template, then fold down the corner
5 Hold the fold in place by stitching through just the fabric (not the paper)
6 Repeat Step 5 for the next corner
7 Continue folding and stitching at all the corners
8 Trim your thread
Watch the process here:
Simply repeat to make 000's more hexagons 😊
SO, do you prefer Glue Basting or Thread Basting? Please let me know in the comments!
Happy Stitching,
